Research Conflict of Interest & Commitment
The UT Health Science Center promotes the dissemination and translation of knowledge that emerges from the research and scholarship of its faculty, students, and staff. This may lead to appointments, consulting, speaking, travel and other activities with professional associations, industry collaborations, and other public and private entities that involve compensation or remuneration, as well as the sharing of royalties generated from the commercialization of their work. Situations in which financial consideration that arise from these activities may compromise or have the appearance of compromising an individual’s professional judgment in the design, conduct or reporting research, are termed financial conflicts of interest, and must be managed or eliminated when they are identified to ensure the integrity of the UT Health Science Center’s research enterprise and to meet federal, sponsor, and UT requirements.
To ensure integrity in the design, conduct and reporting of research, all investigators involved in research related activities (whether funded or unfunded) must disclose potential conflicts of interest.
Disclosures are made and updated through the DASH Research COI module. Individuals must provide a COI disclosure:
-
- At the time of employment
- Annually
- Prior to the submission of a proposal for external funding
- Prior to commencing research activities requiring IRB, IACUC, or BioSafety approval
- Within 30 days of acquiring any new potential conflict of interest
